A flash flood on Wednesday night, May 1, and through the morning on Thursday, May 2, caused many schools in the area to close or have a delayed start on Thursday, May 2.

Both Teague ISD and Dew ISD closed for the day due to the flooding. Faith Academy of Freestone also closed for the day.

Teague ISD closed for the day due to flooded roads in the area.

“We’ll use this time to fix leaks caused by last night’s heavy rain,” TISD Superintendent Chris Skinner said. “Our operations and transportation team is working to make sure everything’s good for school tomorrow (Friday).” Fairfield ISD had a two-hour delay on Thursday as well out of an abundance of caution.

Some areas reported as much as eight to ten inches of rain which caused many roads to be closed due to flooding. There were downed trees in some areas causing detours. Some residents within the county reported no electricity for multiple hours as well.

Another storm came through the area on Saturday night, May 4, into Sunday morning, May 5, that caused more flooding and road closures.
