Fruit Inspectors

Have you seen the commercial on TV about “Clean Boss”? If you watch any local stations, wherever they may be, you probably have. The commercial starts out with a large head of broccoli in a tupperware container. It’s supposed to come directly from the grocery store, and looks a little gray in color, but when the woman who does the commercial pours water over it, the water just glides right off of the broccoli. Then she sprays it with the product that she is trying to sell, “Clean Boss”, and again pours water over it, only this time the water pours through the broccoli and not over the top of it. This is to prove that all the chemicals that have gone into the marketing of the vegetable have now been washed away! The color also has changed from a grayish color to the natural green color of the vegetable. I haven’t tried it yet, but it does look interesting and does give you cause to pause. The same lady sells soap sheets that not only cleans but also softens your clothes as well. This one “sheet” is supposed to replace all the powdered and liquid clothes soaps that we used to wash out clothes. Also interesting, but I haven’t tried either of the products yet.

When I was a student at Baylor University, I knew a couple of guys that had a Christian singing group that was composed of these two guys and one girl, who would share the word of God through their music. I used to have to go over to these guy’s apartment every Sunday morning to wake them up early so they could get to Sunday School on time. This I did every Sunday morning. I don’t know if they wrote this song or not, but there was a line in one of their songs that said, “They will know that we are Christians by our love.” In Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in the book of Matthew, he warned believers to “beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravaging wolves.” Then He said, “You’ll recognize them by their fruit.” Then He gives a convincing “test” by saying that only good trees produce good fruit, but bad trees will only produce bad fruit. Again, He closes with the saying, “So you will recognize them by their fruit.” (Matthew 7:15-20).

I was asked this morning in my Sunday School class if I believed in “modern prophets”? I answered by saying that among the gifts of the Holy Spirit, prophecy and prophets were listed as a part of His gifts and they were given for a purpose (Ephesians 4:11-16). As long as the Holy Spirit is in the world, so also will be His Spiritual Gifts. Once they are removed, guess what? Christians and the church will be removed as well, but until then, all the gifts are still operating.
