Forces Businesses, Schools to Close
After a rainy day on Friday, temperatures began to decrease and finally dropped below freezing on Saturday morning, Jan. 24. After a cold day, a small storm came through the area Saturday evening before the big storm hit around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night with some freezing rain and a lot of sleet.
Citizens woke up on Sunday morning, Jan. 25, to a white blanket of thick ice across their property and on the roads. Winter Storm Fern had left behind a big icy mess. Temperatures from Sunday throughout Tuesday morning were in the 20s and teens. The wind chill was near zero at times early in the mornings. There were some snow flurries throughout the day on Sunday and Monday.
