One day when Jesus was walking with His disciples, He asked them this question, “Who do people say that I am?” His disciples responded, “Some say you are John the Baptist, come back to life; Some say you are the prophet Elijah; still others say that you are the prophet Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” But then Jesus asked His disciples very bluntly, “But you? Who do You say that I am?” And Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the One we have been looking for, the Son of the Living God!” And Jesus said to Peter, “Blessed are you Simon, son of Jonas, you did not come on to this decision by yourself, but My Father in Heaven revealed to you who I am,” That’s a question we all are going to have to answer. People all over the world will have to answer this question, “Who do people say that I, the son of man, am?” And then He will turn the table and ask each of us, “But you, you Tom, you Mark, you Mary, You Susie, who do You say that I am?” I believe that Jesus can read our minds and thoughts, that’s proven all throughout the Bible, but He wants to hear the answer to that question from each of us. And He wants us, you and me, to answer that question from our own understanding, He wants us to know, ourselves, who Jesus is. The Bible tells us He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah (Revelation 5:5), the Bright and Morning Star (Revelation 22:16), the Bread of Life (John 6:32), the Consolation of Israel (Luke 2:25), the Chief Shepherd (1 Peter 5:4), the Author of our Salvation (Hebrews 2:10), the Creator (John 1:3), Our Deliverer (Romans 11:26), the Door to Eternal Life (John 10:7), and the Chosen One of God (Isaiah 42:1). He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords (1 Timothy 6:15), and He is “the Lamb of God, who comes to take away our sins” (John 1:29). But then, Who is Jesus to You? A young minister was just starting out as the pastor of his first church. Feeling somewhat overwhelmed with the task that lay before him, he sought the help of an aged minister who had pastored for many years. The young minister asked, “You have spent your whole lifetime in serving the Lord, and you have had a great deal of experiences, you know many things that I need to learn. Can you, sir, give me some advice to carry with me as I start out on this new journey in my life? “Yes, I can,” was the elder minister’s response. “I will give you a piece of advice that was given to me many years ago. You know that in every small country place of ministry, no matter how small the church and community may be, though it’s hidden in the valleys or in the open farming country, there is a road that if you follow it, will eventually lead you to a big city.” So it is with every text that you choose to preach from in the Bible, you will have a road that leads to Jesus, no matter what Book in the Bible you choose to use. Be sure that you find that road, and follow it. Be careful to never miss it, not even once. This, my young minister friend, is my advice to you.” No matter what road we travel, be it in the country or in the big city, there is a “road” that leads to Jesus Christ. That road is found in the Bible, in the Church where the Name of Jesus Christ is preached, and among fellow believers who walk this land, one foot at a time, one step at a time. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man, woman, or child, comes to the Father but through Me.” Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans, “Whosoever calls upon the Name of the Lord, will be saved.” There is no other Name, and there is no other way to reach your salvation from sin than in the Name of Jesus. Be sure that you call Him by that Name and spend time each day with Him in His written word, the Bible, and in prayer which is your conversation with Him, and worship Him with other fellow believers who struggle as you do, but find your Hope, your Forgiveness, and your Salvation in Him. Is He your Savior and Lord? Just Who is Jesus to you?
