Observances

In the movie “A Few Good Men”, Jack Nicholson screams out at Tom Cruise “You want the truth, you can’t handle the truth”. No truer words were ever spoken because if the truth is painful, nobody wants to hear it. Human beings have a low tolerance for silence and even less tolerance for reading and thinking along with endlessly searching for a free lunch I watched a documentary the other night on the life of George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st U.S. President who raised some taxes and cut some spending in order to put the country on the path to a balanced budget. His own party rejected him because of this and caused his defeat in 1992. The next president followed up with a tax increase that caused him to lose control of Congress in 1994 with the rise of the far right in America. Since then, we have run our national debt up to almost 40 trillion dollars and nobody seems to care.

The moral of the story is bah humbug on the truth, we would prefer to hear a fairy tale.
