Gilbert Gatlin was born Jan. 1, 1934 in Cleveland, Tenn., to Jacob Seamon and Ruth Crutchfield Gatlin and grew up in Grandview. He passed away Nov. 3, 2024.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and his sister.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ann Gatlin of Fairfield; brother, Earl Gatlin and wife Marie of Grandview; son, Wayne Gatlin and wife Lori of Tenaha; daughter, D’Ann Sellers and husband Greg of Ennis; and daughter, Amy Gatlin of Fairfield; grandchildren, Tyler Heard and Haley Rohland of Gun Barrel City, and Amy Weaver and husband Garrett of Chatfield; three great-grandchildren, Jameson and Emmery Heard, and Hoytt Weaver. He is also survived by many bonus grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Gilbert was a 1961 graduate of Texas A&M University, a professor at Lamar University in Beaumont, and Navarro College and worked at TU Electric in Fairfield.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fairfield and Fairfield Lions Club. His passions were God, his family, teaching and serving his community.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Texas Lions Camp, Kerrvill, First United Methodist Church of Fairfield and/or Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation.
