John Kuzmich is only a freshman at Fairfield High, but that did not stop him from competing at the statewide level in his favorite sport.
Kuzmich ran the 5,000-meter UIL Class 3A Cross Country State Championship at Old Orchard Park in Round Rock on Saturday, Nov. 2. He came in 59th place with a time of 17 minutes, 29.4 seconds. His first time at state, the freshman distance specialist said it was the most nerve-wracking event he has ever participated in.
“The atmosphere was crazy; there were so many people there and it was so crowded,” Kuzmich said. “Once I started to worry more about the race itself, it calmed me down. Plus, my coaches really helped me get ready to run.”
