A recent news release from the North Texas Municipal Water District indicates Texas’newest recreational lake — Bois D’ Arc Lake — has been a popular destination with anglers and resulted in significant economic impacts for surrounding areas.
Located in Fannin County, Bois d’Arc is a 16,600-acre water supply reservoir that opened to boating traffic in April 2024. It’s the first major reservoir constructed in Texas since O.H. Ivie was impounded in 1990.
Inland fisheries biologists with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Denison office have been performing angler creel surveys on the water and at public ramps since the lake’s opening. Creel surveys are designed to provide scientists with a wealth of valuable information about fishing pressure, target species, success/harvest rates, hours spent fishing and the amount of money anglers spend on individual fishing trips.
