The Fairfield Lady Eagles defeated the Teague Lady Lions 55-33 in their district opener last Tuesday, Dec. 3.

“It is hard to come off of a holiday break and play a district game, but I thought the girls did a great job of staying persistent and playing hard,” Coach Sally Whitaker said. “We were able to work on several lineups and situations during the game that will help us moving forward.”

Fairfield led 12-10 after the first quarter of play. The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Lions 14-12 in the second quarter to take a 26-22 lead at halftime.

The Lady Eagles came out in the second quarter and began to increase their lead. Fairfield put 17 points on the board in the third quarter as Teague only scored 11 points as the Lady Eagles took a 43-33 lead into the final quarter of play. The Lady Eagles scored 11 points in the fourth quarter and held the Lady Lions scoreless for the 55-33 home victory.

“The purpose of how we play is to try to wear the other team down,” Whitaker said. “It may not happen in the first half, but by the end of the game we hope to be able to take advantage of the other team being tired. We just have to keep working and good things usually happen.”

Fairfield hosted Buffalo on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The Lady Eagles will host the Fairfield Tournament this weekend before hosting Groesbeck next Tuesday, Dec. 17.
