The Fairfield Eagles fell to the China Spring Cougars 62-54 on Tuesday, Nov. 26, to begin their season.
Fairfield took a 20-7 lead after the first quarter. However, China Spring put 21 points on the board in the second quarter and held the Eagles to just 9 as Fairfield took a one-point lead, 2928, at halftime.
The Cougars came out strong in the third quarter and outscored the Eagles 17-9 to take a 45-38 lead into the final quarter of play. China Spring scored 17 points and Fairfield scored 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Cougars held on for a 6254 home win.
McElroy led the way with 11 points. Calvert and Turner added nine each, George and Alexander five apiece, Brackens, Brown, and Zachary four each, and Roberts three.
Fairfield traveled to Centerville on Tuesday, Dec. 3, to take on the Tigers before playing in the Lorena Tournament this weekend. The Eagles will travel to Madisonville next Tuesday, Dec. 10, before hosting the Fairfield Tournament next weekend.
