Freestone County cities followed the majority of the state in sales tax revenue reported in November, showing increases across the board.
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported state sales tax revenue of $4.3 billion in November, 4.7 percent more than in November 2023. The majority of November sales tax revenue is based on sales made in October and remitted to the agency in November. The state takes its portion of the sales number and refunds the rest. For example, if a city has a sales tax rate of 8.25%, the state receives 6.25% and the city is refunded the 2%.
Freestone County’s largest city, Fairfield, received a payment of $258,321, up 6.49% over the same period last year. For the year, Fairfield has earned $2.638 million, about $217,200 over last year.
