The Fairfield Lady Eagles defeated Elkhart and Westwood this past week to remain undefeated after the first round of district play. Fairfield moves to 21-5 overall and 6-0 in district play.
“I’m really proud of this team for what they have accomplished so far this season,” head coach Sally Whitaker said.
On Tuesday, Jan. 7, Fairfield traveled to Elkhart and brought home a 68-27 victory over the Lady Elks.
The Lady Eagles took a 16-9 lead in the first quarter of play. Fairfield outscored Elkhart 15-8 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 31-17 at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Eagles scored 16 points in the third quarter and 21 points in the fourth quarter while holding the Lady Elks to a total of 10 points, five in the third and five in the fourth, to bring home the 6827 road win.
Jacelynn Schmidt led the way for the Lady Eagles with 17 points. Kaylee Williams added 14 points and Blayke Brackens scored 12 points in the victory.
Fairfield hosted Westwood on Friday, Jan. 10, and dominated the Lady Panthers 73-22 to wrap-up the first round of district play.
The Lady Eagles took a 25-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Fairfield outscored Westwood 20-5 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 45-9.
The Lady Eagles scored 14 points in the third quarter as the Lady Panthers scored eight to make it a 59-17 game going into the final quarter of play. Fairfield added 14 points on the board in the fourth quarter as Westwood added five as the Lady Eagles took the big 73-22 home win.
Brackens led the way for Fairfield with 18 points. Aaliyah Nash added 15 points and Delaney McGowan also reached double figures in scoring with 11.
Fairfield started the second round of district play on Tuesday, Jan. 14, in Teague against the Lady Lions. The Lady Eagles plan to host the Buffalo Lady Bison Friday, Jan. 17, before traveling to Groesbeck next Tuesday, Jan. 21, to take on the Lady Goats.
“As we start the second round of district, we want to continue to improve and grow as a team,” Whitaker said.
