Cleanup group's Fall Sweep a success

Keep Texas Beautiful reported “record-breaking participation” in its Fall Sweep that ran from Sept. 11 to Nov. 20.

The cleanup group cited a 167 increase in 2024 from the previous year in projects, an 89 percent increase in youth participation, a 166 percent increase in litter collected amounting to 307,389 pounds and one million plants and bulbs planted.

There were 18,807 volunteers of which 8,315 were youth under 25 working 45,806 hours, 313 miles of state highways cleaned, 1,958 trees planted, 12,088 tires collected and 729,813 pounds of debris and recycling collected. “These incredible achievements show the power of community action,” the group’s officials said. “Let’s keep this momentum going. Join your local affiliate for a future cleanup event and help create a cleaner, more beautiful Texas.”
