Eagles pick up wins over Teague, Buffalo

The Fairfield Eagles basketball team picked-up two district wins this past week by defeating Teague and Buffalo. The wins move the Eagles to 9-12 overall and 4-2 in district play.

The Fairfield Eagles basketball team picked-up two district wins this past week by defeating Teague and Buffalo. The wins move the Eagles to 9-12 overall and 4-2 in district play.

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, Fairfield traveled to Teague and brought home a 73-45 victory over the Lions.

The Eagles took a 2511 lead in the first quarter of play and never looked back. Teague outscored Fairfield 14-10 in the second quarter to make it a 36-25 game at halftime.

The Eagles came out hot in the third quarter and put 28 points on the board while holding the Lions to just nine points to make it a 64-34 game going into the final quarter of play. Teague outscored Fairfield 11-9 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t near enough as the Eagles brought home the 73-45 road win.

Madden McElroy led the way for the Eagles with 21 points and Kohl Collins added 11.

Fairfield then hosted Buffalo on Friday night, Jan. 17, and defeated the Bison 75-43.

The Eagles took a 16-8 lead over the Bison in the first quarter. Fairfield added 17 more points on the board in the second quarter as Buffalo scored 11 to make it a 33-19 game at halftime.

The Eagles came out on fire in the third quarter and outscored the Bison 25-9 to increase their lead to 58-28 going into the final quarter of play. Fairfield outscored Buffalo 17-15 in the fourth quarter to take the big 75-43 district win to end the first round of district play.

Keyshawn Turner led the way for Fairfield with 23 points. Three other players, Manny Brown (12), McElroy (11), and Collins (10) all reached double figure scoring totals in the Fairfield victory.

Fairfield traveled to Groesbeck for a contest with the Goats on Tuesday, Jan. 21, to begin the second round of district play. The Eagles have a bye night on Friday, Jan. 24, before they travel to Mexia next Tuesday, Jan. 28, to take on the Blackcats.
