The Fairfield Eagles basketball club traveled to Groesbeck on Wednesday, Jan. 22, and brought home a 75-54 victory to begin the second round of district play. Fairfield moves to 10-12 overall and 5-2 in district play.
Fairfield took a 15-6 lead in the first quarter. The Goats came back and outscored the Eagles 17-15 in the second quarter to make it a 30-23 game at halftime.
Fairfield came out in the third quarter on fire and put 32 points on the board as Groesbeck scored 16 to make it a 62-39 game going into the final quarter of play. The Eagles hit five threes in the third quarter, four were made by Manny Brown.
The Goats outscored the Eagles 15-13 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as Fairfield brought home the 75-54 victory.
Brown led the way for the Eagles with 15 points. Kavion Hicks added 14 points. Madden McElroy and Airen Roberts totaled 11 points each in the win.
Fairfield played Mexia on Tuesday night, Jan. 28. The Eagles will host the Elkhart Elks on Friday night, Jan. 31, before traveling to Westwood next Tuesday, Feb. 4 to take on the Panthers.
