The Fairfield Eagles fell to the Mexia Blackcats last Tuesday, Jan. 28, 7053 to move to 10-13 overall and 5-3 in district play .
Mexia led 17-15 after the first quarter of play. However, a 24-9 run in the second quarter gave the Blackcats a 42-24 lead at halftime.
Fairfield came out in the third quarter and outscored Mexia 12-10 to make it a 52-36 game going into the final quarter of play. The Blackcats scored 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Eagles scored 17 points as Mexia took the 70-53 home win.
Kavion Hicks led the way for the Eagles with 21 points. Keyshawn Turner added 11 points, Madden McElroy 9, Kohl Collins and Joshua George 4 each, and Jason Brackens and Will Zachary 2 apiece.
Fairfield´s Friday night game against Elkhart was moved to Monday, Feb. 3, due to the school being shut down due to sickness. The Eagles traveled to Westwood on Tuesday, Feb. 4, to take on the Panthers. Fairfield will host Teague on Friday, Feb. 7, before wrapping-up district play next Tuesday, Feb. 11, on the road against the Buffalo Bison.
