Lady Eagles knock off Franklin 73-40 bi-district

The Fairfield Lady Eagles knocked-off the Franklin Lady Lions 73-40 in the Bi-District Championship on Monday night, Feb. 10, at Leon High School.

“The girls played great tonight,” Coach Sally Whitaker said after the game. “I’m proud of how hard they played, and how well they worked together. It’s always good to get this first win.”

Fairfield (28-6) advances to take on Grandview (32-3) in the Area Championship on Friday night, Feb. 14, at Corsicana High School at 6 p.m.

Fairfield got on the board first with a basket by Jacelynn Schmidt. Franklin´s lone lead of the night came on their first basket, a three-pointer, to take a 3-2 lead. The Lady Eagles went on a 13-0 run to take a 15-3 lead and never looked back. Fairfield led 23-8 after the first quarter of play. Fairfield outscored Franklin 14-9 in the second quarter to take a 37-17 lead at halftime.

The Lady Eagles came out in the third quarter and went on a 15-0 run to make it a 52-17 game. Fairfield would go on to take a 58-27 lead into the final quarter of play. The Lady Eagles put 15 more points on the board in the fourth quarter and the Lady Lions added 13 points as Fairfield took the big 7340 victory over Franklin to advance to the next round of the playoffs.

Jacelynn Schmidt led the way for the Lady Eagles with 18 points. Blayke Brackens and Kaylee Williams added 14 each, Jaci Abram 8, Delaney Mc-Gowan and Jimilyah Nash 6 apiece, KeKe Alexander 4, and Kole Brackens 3.

When asked about Fairfield’s defense and hustle up and down the court, Whitaker said, “Our defense is our identity. We have to play with intensity and energy every second of the game. We want to make it as hard as we can on the other team.”
