The Fairfield Lady Eagles defeated Elkhart and Westwood this past week to finish district play undefeated at 12-0. This is the eighth straight year that Fairfield has won the district title.
“Even though we have come to view a district championship as an expectation rather than a major accomplishment, it is still a necessary step for us to take each season,” Coach Sally Whitaker said. “These girls work so hard and they make things look so easy sometimes, but we are so proud of them for winning district again this year.” On Monday night, Feb. 3, the Lady Eagles knockedoff the Elkhart Lady Elks 5923. The game was postponed from Friday night, Jan. 30, after Fairfield ISD closed for the day due to sickness.
Fairfield jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Eagles added 13 points on the board in the second quarter as the Lady Elks scored 8 to make it a 33-12 game at halftime.
Fairfieldcameoutinthethird quarter and outscored Elkhart 18-4 to extend their lead to 5116 going into the final quarter of play. The Lady Eagles scored 8 more points in the fourth quarter as the Lady Elks added 7 to take the home win, 59-23.
Addison Posey led the way for the Lady Eagles with 12 points. Jacelynn Schmidt added 9 points, Blayke Brackens, KK Williams, and Jaci Abram 8 each, Jimilyah Nash 7, KeKe Alexander 6, and Delaney McGowan 1.
Win over Westwood
Fairfield traveled to Westwood on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and brought home a big 81-34 victory over the Lady Panthers in their final district game of the season.
The Lady Eagles put 28 points on the board in the first quarter as the Lady Panthers scored 7. Fairfield outscored Westwood 12-10 in the second quarter to make it a 4018 game at halftime.
The Lady Eagles came out on fire in the third quarter and scored another 28 points while holding the Lady Panthers to 5 to make it a 6823 game going into the final quarter of play. Fairfield outscored Westwood 19-11 in the fourth quarter to bring home the road victory, 81-34. Schmidt led the way for Fairfield with 25 points. Williams added 17 points, Brackens 15, Alexander 8, Nash 7, Abram and McGowan 5 each, Posey 3, and Rhett Ralstin 2 When asked about the playoffs, Whitaker said, “Our goal is the same this year as it has been in the past. We want to put ourselves in the position to have a chance to win another state championship.”
