The Fairfield Eagles went 2-1 on the week, defeating Elkhart and Teague and falling to Westwood to move to 12-14 overall and 7-4 in district play.
On Monday night, Feb. 3, Fairfield hosted the Elkhart Elks. The game was postponed from the previous Friday night after Fairfield ISD shutdown due to sickness. When all was said and done, the Eagles came out on top with a 54-46 home win.
Fairfield took an 18-12 lead in the first quarter of play. The Eagles outscored the Elks 16-11 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 34-23 at halftime.
Elkhart came out in the third quarter and put 13 points on the board while holding Fairfield to just 8 to make it a 42-36 game going into the final quarter of play. The Eagles outscored the Elks 12-10 to hold on for a 54-46 home win.
Madden McElroy led the way for the Eagles with 11 points. Keyshawn Turner added 10 points, Kavion Hicks 8, Jason Brackens 7, Kohl Collins and Airen Roberts 6 each, and Joshua George and Connor Colvert 3 apiece.
Loss to westwood
Fairfield traveled to Westwood on Tuesday, Feb. 4, and played a great game against the Panthers, but came up short, 80-71.
The Eagles took a 20-16 lead over the Panthers in the first quarter. Fairfield put 16 points on the board in the second quarter and held Westwood to 9 to increase their lead to 36-25 at halftime.
The Panthers came out in the third quarter and put 24 points on the board as the Eagles scored 21 to make it a 57-49 game going into the final quarter of play. The seventh- ranked Panthers dominated in the fourth quarter scoring 31 points and only allowing the Eagles to score 14 to come from behind for the 80-71 home win.
McEloy led the way for Fairfield with 21 points. Turner added 14 points, Devonte Alexander 10, Hicks 9, Collins 8, Colvert 5, and Brackens and Will Zachary 2 each.
Win over Teague
On Friday night, Feb. 7, Fairfield hosted Teague in their final home game of the season and won 64-42.
Fairfield led 8-7 in the first quarter before going on a 10-0 run to end the quarter to take an 18-7 lead. The Eagles outscored the Lions 13-7 in the second quarter to make it a 31-14 game at halftime.
Fairfield came out in the third quarter and put 18 points on the board as Teague scored 10 to increase their lead to 49-24 going into the final quarter of play. The Lions outscored the Eagles 18-15 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t nearly enough as Fairfield took the 64-42 home win.
Hicks led the way for the Eagles with 10 points. Zachary added 9 points, Roberts and Brown 7 apiece, Brackens, McElroy, and Colvert 6 each, Turner 5, Collins 4, and Eli Owen and Jesus Pena 2 apiece.
Fairfield wrapped-up district play with Buffalo on Tuesday, Feb. 11, before heading into the playoffs.
