What a beautiful week of springtime type weather we enjoyed the last week in February. It sure appears that the winter may be over and the warmer spring weather is going to have an early arrival in 2025.
At this time, we’re still awaiting the arrival of the large schools of white bass and Hybrid Stripers to make their way out of the creeks where they are currently setting up for their annual spawn and into the main lake area. Our hope every year is that the whites and hybrids are through with their spawn by mid-March and we get to start spring Break catching them as well as the always plentiful catfish. It’s not possible for us to go where the white bass spawn as they move way up the creek channels in shallow water where only the bank fishermen who have access to private property can catch them.
Last week, one of my grandsons and I scouted the lake to see if we could find the white bass. While we found just a few whites and small hybrids, my grandson did catch a nice 5-pound-plus largemouth bass (See photo).
