Salinas, Gutierrez, Solis advance to the State Powerlifting Meet

Landon Salina, Jose Gutierrez, and Austin Solis advanced to the State Powerlifting Meet after competing in the Regional Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, March 8, at West High School. The State meet will be held in Abilene on Friday, March 21, at 9 a.m.

“These guys have done a great job all year,” Coach Kevin Childers said. “This was icing on the cake getting three to the state meet.”

Salinas brought home the gold in the 242 class with a squat of 690 pounds, bench press of 540 pounds, and deadlift of 600 pounds for a total of 1,830 pounds. He broke the squat, bench, and total records. He also won an award for being the Outstanding Heavy Platform Lifter.

Gutierrez grabbed first place in the 114 division with a squat of 375 pounds, bench press of 210 pounds, and deadlift of 385 pounds for a total of 970 pounds.

Solis garened fifth place in the 148 class with a squat of 460 pounds, bench press of 335 pounds, and deadlift of 405 pounds for a total of 1,200 pounds. The Qualifying Total amount allowed Solis to advance to the state competition.

AJ Garcia placed fourth in the 181 division with a squat of 460 pounds, bench press of 400 pounds, and deadlift of 425 pounds for a total of 1,285 pounds.

Gage Wendt took sixth place in the 132 class with a squat of 370 pounds, bench press of 225 pounds, and a deadlift of 375 pounds for a total of 970 pounds.

Aiden Adams (114 Class) and Armando Charles (165 Class) bombed out of the competition.

Ricky Castaneda and Brayden Thornburg assisted the powerlifters during the meet.

There were a total of 140 lifters at the Regional Meet. Out of 30 schools, Fairfield placed fifth overall with 17 points behind Troy (32), Little River Academy (26), McGregor (23), and Whitney (18).
