Fairfield went 2-0 on the week with wins over Elkhart and Groesbeck to move to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in district play.
Fairfield traveled to Elkhart on Monday, March 17, and brought home a 15-0 victory over the Elks in five innings of play.
Fairfield scored one run in the first inning, seven runs in the third inning, and seven runs in the fourth inning.
The Eagles had 12 hits throughout the game. Angel Serrato had three hits and Dylon McGowan had two hits as Cal Wilson, Justin Johnson, Kohl Collins, Zech Smith, and Rustyn Taylor each had one hit. Connor Colvert pitched four innings and struck out six batters as Landon Cockerell pitched an inning and struck out a batter.
Fairfield hosted the Groesbeck Goats on Friday, March 21, and took a 5-4 victory in eight innings of play.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead over the Goats in the first inning of play. Wilson and McGowan scored on a triple by Johnson. Johnson later scored on Gusatvo Aguilera single.
Groesbeck scored a run in the top of the second and two in the top of the fourth to tie the game at three.
Fairfield scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Nathan Richards singled and later scored on a McGowan RBI.
However, the Goats answered back with a run in the top of the sixth to tie the game at four.
The Eagles managed to score a run in the bottom of the eighth inning for the home win. Serrato was hit by a pitch and later scored on an error by the Goats on a hit by Johnson.
Fairfield had four hits in the game as Groesbeck had six hits. However, the Eagles made four errors throughout the game to the Goats’ one. Wilson, Johnson, Aguilera, and Richards each had a hit for the Eagles.
Aguilera pitched seven and two thirds of an inning for Fairfield and had ten strikeouts. Cockerell pitched one third of an inning.
Fairfield traveled to Teague on Tuesday night, March 25, to take on the Lions. The Eagles will travel to Westwood on Friday, March 28, to take on the Panthers before hosting the Mexia Blackcats next Tuesday, April 1.
