Eagles undefeated in first round of district

The Fairfield Eagles went undefeated with a 6-0 record in the first round of district play. Overall, the Eagles are 11-2.

Fairfield traveled to Teague on Tuesday night, March 29. The Eagles jumped out to an early 6-0 lead over Teague in the first two innings of play. However, the Lions fought back. Teague scored three in the bottom of the third to cut Fairfield’s lead in half, 6-3.

The Eagles scored a run in the top of the fifth as the Lions scored three in the bottom of the inning to make it a 7-6 ballgame.

Fairfield scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to increase their lead to 9-6. Teague scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn’t enough as Fairfi eld brought home a one run win, 9-8, over Teague.

Fairfield had five hits in the game as Teague had eight hits. There were a multitude of errors in the game The Eagles had five errors as the Lions had seven errors.

Conor Colvert pitched three innings and struck out two batters. Landon Cockerell pitched three and one third innings and struck out two batters. Angel Serrato pitched two thirds of an inning and struck out a batter.

On Saturday, March 29, Fairfield traveled to Westwood to take on the Panthers and brought home a 19-3 victory in eight innings of play.

Fairifeld scored a run in the second inning. Westwood scored two in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Eagles managed to score a run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at two and force an extra inning of play.

In the top of the eighth inning, Fairfield scored 17 runs to make it a 19-2 ballgame. Westwood scored a run in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles brought home the 19-3 road win.

Aguilera pitched five innings and struck out 11 batters. Serrato pitched two innings and struck out three batters. Kohl Collins pitched a third of an inning. Cockerell pitched two thirds of an inning and struck out one batter.

The Eagles had 14 hits in the game as Westwood only had five. The Panthers also had four errors in the game.

Fairfield hosted Mexia on Tuesday night, April 1. The Eagles will travel to Ferris to take on the Yellowjackets on Saturday morning, April 5, in a non-district game. Fairfield will start district action again next Tuesday, April 8, on the road against the Buffalo Bison.
