April has certainly started with a splash, with showers that remind us of the old saying: “April showers bring May flowers.” Just as we were relishing the warmth of temperatures in the 70s and 80s, the cold winter rain hit us over the weekend, bringing lower temperatures. However, there’s no room for complaints, especially when we consider the devastating news of tornadoes, flooding, and the tragic loss of lives. On a lighter note, Carl came through again last week with a dozen blueberry donuts, showcasing his generosity and dedication to spoiling our morning crowd.
A huge shoutout to our anonymous sponsor for providing a large container of original Coffee-Mate creamer, extra condiments for our lunches, and a supply of napkins for our dining room. Thanks are also due to Debbie McDonald for her amazing salad dressing contributions and her tireless efforts in helping clear tables each day.
Last week, Janet surprised us with an unexpected visit, and everyone was thrilled to see her! She brings joy to our gatherings, and we hope to see her again soon, even if we have to share her with her special great-grandson, Jaxon. It was fantastic to have Kim back for lunch after missing her the previous week.
Erin from Fairfield Nursing and Rehab joined us and brought lots of excitement with her bingo calling, introducing new games and fabulous prizes. Her dedication is commendable, and we appreciate her commitment to join us even in inclement weather. My dad would say she’s a keeper.
A big thank you to Peggy for yet another round of assorted donuts. She embodies the spirit of generosity and always shows compliments on our lunches and the efforts of everyone involved. I extend my gratitude to all my volunteers and drivers for Meals on Wheels. We missed Jennifer last week due to death in the family. Her contributions are truly invaluable, even beyond her role as our activity director.
We are gearing up for something special for Easter. Please mark your calendars: we will be closed on April 18th for Good Friday and will reopen the following Monday. We have three birthdays to celebrate this month, and we’ll be combining them with bingo on Wednesday, April 30th. I’ll share more details on the birthday celebrations later.
Let’s give a special round of applause to our outstanding cooks at Fairfield: Darlene, Virginia, and Daniel — fantastic job! It’s also wonderful to have Ed and Kit Prasil back on the schedule, and a special mention goes to Kit for bringing her neighbor, Priscilla, to help deliver the mail last Friday.
Let’s remember to pray for our men and women serving in the military, our country, and our community. We also need to support those who have recently lost loved ones and their families.
I’m pleased with the merger of the Fairfi eld Recorder and Teague Chronicle. The new name, layout, and print quality are excellent. Well done, Richard!
Join us Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 2:00. Thank you, and God bless you all.
