11 Fairfield athletes advance to Regionals

The Fairfield Lady Eagles grabbed second place overall out of 14 schools at the Area Track Meet held in Fairfield on Wednesday, April 9.

Eleven Fairfield High School athletes are advancing to the Regional Track Meet in Huntsville April 18-19. Some athletes will be competing in multiple events. Advancing to Regionals are Na’Kayla Conner, Kaylee Williams, Addison Posey, Jacelynn Schmidt, Blayke Brackens, Addison Shipley, Bella Campise, Madison Russell, Collen Loviette, John Kuzmich, and Brayden Thornburg.

Lady Eagles

The Fairfield Lady Eagles took second place out of 14 schools at the Area Track Meet with 99 points, behind Franklin who tallied 138 points.

In the top athletes division, Kaylee Williams took third with 22 points, Jacelynn Schmidt fifth with 20 points, and Blayke Brackens seventh with 17 points.

Conner advanced to Regionals by grabbing the gold in the 100m dash with a time of 12.166.

Zada Pjetrovic placed sixth in the 1600m run with a time of 6:23.392.

In the 4x100m relay, Williams, Posey, Schmidt, and Brackens won first place with a time of 48.603 to advance to Regionals.

Shipley and Campise advanced to Regionals in the 800m run by placing second and fourth respectively with times of 2:32.136 and 2:37.831.

Brackens took fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 26.660.

With a time of 13:23.235, Madison Russell grabbed third place in the 3200m run to advance to Regionals.

Schmidt, Williams, Faith King, and Shipley ran the 4x400m relay in 4:17.475 for a fifth place finish.

In the long jump competition, Williams and Schmidt took second and third place respectively to advance to Regionals with jumps of 17’ 0¾” and 17’ 0”. Samayah Wiley placed fifth with a distance of 16’ 0½”.

Jaci Abram placed sixth in the shot put competition with a throw of 30’ 8”. She also placed sixth in the discus contest with a throw of 98’1”.

Brackens and Williams took first and second place respectively in the triple jump competition to advance to Regionals with jumps of 36’ 3¾” and 24’ 10¾”.

In the high jump contest, Schmidt placed second with a jump of 5’1” to advance to Regionals.

Eagles

The Fairfield Eagles earned ninth place out of 14 schools with 21 points. Fairfield defeated Teague (20), Palestine Westwood (13), Groesbeck (8), Rogers (4), and Buffalo (0).

Jason Brackens took fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.170.

In the 1600m run, Loviette grabbed fourth place to advance to Regionals with a time of 4:52.544. Kuzmich took sixth with a time of 5:00.954.

With a time of 53.214, Madden McElroy garnered fifth place in the 400m dash.

Kuzmich advanced to Regionals in the 3200m run by taking third place with a 10:33.500.

With a throw of 131’7”, Thornburg grabbed third place in the discus competition to advance to Regionals.
