Fairfield Mayor Bobby Nichols reported that the city might get a patrol dog for the Fairfield Police Department at the City Council meeting Tuesday, April 8.
Nichols said he believes it would assist the schools greatly.
“I hope we can make it happen,” Nichols said. “It would be great for the city.”
Nichols also noted that the bleachers throughout the city are not up to code and need to be replaced. He would like to replace the ones at the fairgrounds and the soccer fields first and get rid of all the other ones until they can be replaced.
Nichols said he spoke with the Freestone County Fair Association concerning fair week in June. He noted that workers had numerous overtime hours last year. He let the fair board know that the city would not have workers at the fair all hours to work this year due to the budget.
Fairfield Economic Development President David Fowler said he has had multiple leads into business expansions into Fairfield. He said hat Tejun would be building a location in Fairfield soon next to their warehouse. The restaurant, which serves crawfish and shrimp, would include a pond in the back with outdoor seating along with fireplaces. This will be Tejun’s fourth location to open.
