FISD building ‘Thinking Classrooms’

Fairfield ISD is beginning the process of implementing Building Thinking Classrooms in its math classrooms. This approach to teaching math comes from the years of research from the author Peter Liljedahal in his book, “Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics.” This approach is a bit different from what most FISD students have been used to previously, according to FISD administrators.

This approach to teaching math comes from the years of research from the author Peter Liljedahal in his book, “Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics.” This approach is a bit different from what most FISD students have been used to previously, according to FISD administrators.

It focuses, as the name suggests, on students’ thinking. Students will work with randomly selected partners on vertical surfaces (whiteboards) where they will collaborate on various non-curricular and curriculum- based tasks that promote thinking.
