The Fairfield ISD school board approved their cell phone policy and consequences at the Monday, Aug. 4, school board meeting. All members were present except for Kim Whitaker.
The new state law HB 1481 passed by the Texas Legislature and signed by GovernorAbbott, no longer allows students to use personal communication devices (Phones, Smart Watches, Earbuds, Nonschool computers or tablets) while at school. This takes effect from when students enter the school building until the end of the school day at 3:35 p.m. It is best practice for students to leave their devices at home. If a student brings a device to school, the device must be secured in their academic locker, academic backpack, or in their vehicle. Devices that are seen or heard will be considered a violation of this state law and fall under the following disciplinary guidelines. A device in a pocket of pants or a jacket is not considered secure and will be a violation.
The following are offenses for Fairfield ISD students approved by the board 1st Offense - The device(s) will be confiscated for the remainder of the day and must be picked up at the campus office by a Parent/Guardian the next school day. The student will receive a verbal warning and a written copy of the policy. 2nd Offense - The device(s) will be confiscated for 5 school days (weekends or holidays do not count) and must be picked up at the campus office by a Parent/ Guardian. The student will receive Extended School Detention or 1 day of In-School-Suspension (ISS).
