Aimee Burks has been named the 2024-2025 Fairfi eld Junior High School Teacher of the Year.

“I am very honored and grateful to be chosen as the FJH Teacher of the Year,” Burks said. “I am blessed to work at such a wonderful campus with such an amazing staff.”

Burks graduated from Athens High School, which is where she still resides as well. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2007.

This is Burks’ fourteenth year teaching in public school and her fourth year at Fairfi eld Junior High. She currently teaches sixth, seventh, and eighth grade English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) and English Second Language (ESL).

“Aimee has demonstrated leadership in multiple ways. She goes above and beyond to ensure the needs of every student in her classroom are met, providing a reassuring presence for both students and staff,” Fairfield Junior High Principal Cari Martin said. “Ms. Burks oversees LPAC and serves as the TELPAS Coordinator at the Junior High Campus. Additionally, Ms. Burks has been a valuable contributor to the UIL Academics. We are thankful for her positive impact on the students and staff at FJHS.”

In her career, she has also taught sixth grade Reading, Home-Ec, seventh grade Reading, Career Portals, Journalism/Yearbook, eighth grade English, and sixth/seventh grade Writing and ESL.

“I love to learn new things all the time and try to encourage my students to be passionate about learning,” Burks said. “I hope they will remember activities, projects, discussions, and lessons that will inspire them in the future. I want every student to understand and feel like they can be successful.”

When asked what her favorite memory as an educator was, she said, “I always enjoy giving my end of year class awards. I give students a mixture of meaningful to silly awards that I hope they will remember and treasure in the years to come.”

Throughout her career, she has served as a Mentor Teacher, UIL Co-Academic Coordinator, ESL Coordinator, ELAR Department Chair, and One Act Play Co-Director.

Aimee has two children. Caleb is an eighth grader and Olivia is a sixth grader at Athens ISD.

During her free time, she likes to run and is very active outdoors. She likes to travel and explore new places, in addition to reading, watching movies, and listening to music.

“I am enjoying the community of Fairfield and hope to stay a contributing part of the district for years to come,” Burks said.
