Area’s state sales tax revenue down

State sales tax revenue totaled $3.68 billion in March based on February sales, 2.7 percent less than in March 2024, according to Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar. “State sales tax collections declined on a yearover-year basis for the first time since April 2024,” Hegar said.

“State sales tax collections declined on a yearover-year basis for the first time since April 2024,” Hegar said. “Collections were down in all major business-related sectors as well as the retail sector, responsible for the largest share of sales tax revenue.”

In Freestone County cities, both decreases and gains were seen. Fairfield dropped 1.77 percent with $193,421 compared to $196,919 in March 2024; Teague rose 30.70 percent with $76,841 compared to $58,788; Streetman gained 83.17 percent with $8,457 compared to 5.365; Wortham fell 12.89 percent with $19,082 compared to $21,908.
