Beryl’s punch weakened as it drew close to Bi-Stone area
Concerns that Tropical Storm Beryl might dump heavy amounts of rain and cause flooding along I-45 that might affect Limestone and Freestone Counties apparently failed to materialize. A flood watch was in effect through early Tuesday morning, July 9, for most of eastern North and Central Texas after Beryl made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in South Texas near Houston Sunday night, according to Limestone County Emergency Management. 07/10/2024 11:52 AM

Letter to the Editor
Some comments demand response in El Sellers’ latest Letter to the Editor, run June 20, “LAWFARE: THE LAST REFUGE OF LIBERALS.” Explaining, Sellers offers: “the term (“lawfare”) as currently used, explains using legal statutes as political weapons against an opponent.” This is true, in that BOTH sides will make accusations of lawbreaking against the other political side. These LEGAL charges, true or not, may indeed be intended to harm the opponent politically. 07/10/2024 11:52 AM

Proposed fed rule would protect workers from extreme heat

GIVING THEM CHRIST Growing up along the Gulf Coast of Texas (my family home was only 30 minutes from Galveston Island) this time of year always spelled one daunting reality, hurricanes. Even as I type this a tropical system (Hurricane Beryl) is bearing down on the people of Houston, while we here in Freestone County celebrate some days of lower temperatures and much-needed rain. 07/10/2024 11:52 AM
Only Love
Only Love
Paul wrote in Romans, chapter 13, verse 8, “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another, fulfills the law.” That’s a pretty good law, isn’t it, to love one another? There are those who are easy to love, and there are those who are hard to love, but the Bible doesn’t make any distinction between the two. It simply says, “Owe no one anything, except to love one another.” C. 07/10/2024 11:52 AM
