Kindness from Case Shoot - a huge success
The annual Kindness from Case Sporting Clays Shoot held on Saturday, April 12, at the Case Robinson Memorial Range was another huge success this year. A total of 30 teams along with some individuals, totaling over 130 participants, competed in the shoot.

Fairfield considers adding dog to PD
Fairfield Mayor Bobby Nichols reported that the city might get a patrol dog for the Fairfield Police Department at the City Council meeting Tuesday, April 8. Nichols said he believes it would assist the schools greatly.

The City of Teague Annual Spring Clean-up is set for Saturday, April 26, from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Dumpster locations will be at the 8th Avenue Park, Booker T. Washington Park, and the City of Teague Collection Center.

Easter Eggstravaganza set for Saturday
The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 19, at the Freestone County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. There will be crafts, face painting, egg dying, pony carousel, and cotton candy. The Easter Bunny will be making an appearance as well.

TISD to start school Aug. 13
The 2025-2026 Teague ISD academic calendar has been released and students will return to school on Wednesday, Aug. 13. Teachers along with other faculty and staff members will return on Tuesday, Aug. 5 and have six days of professional development before the first day of school.

Courthouse renovation grant pending agreements
The $6.4 million grant from the Texas Historical Commission to renovate the Freestone County Courthouse will require the execution of funding and easement agreements. The Freestone County Commissioners Court tabled those matters at its Wednesday, April 2, meeting.

Area’s state sales tax revenue down
State sales tax revenue totaled $3.68 billion in March based on February sales, 2.7 percent less than in March 2024, according to Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar. “State sales tax collections declined on a yearover-year basis for the first time since April 2024,” Hegar said.

Three Fairfield High School Ag Mech teams competed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) in March. They are two blue ribbons and a red ribbon.
