Cold temps make fishing tough
This past week was almost a carbon copy of the previous week as we had cold temperatures, lots of wind, and very few days that were pleasant enough to get on the lake and catch a few fish! I did manage to conduct a trip the one day (Thursday) that was almost springlike and sandwiched in between those days that you knew it was winter! While the early morning temperature was a cold 28 degrees, by our start time of 8:30 a.m., it was in the high 30s and by midday, it was in the 50s! This was the first trip since the early January cold front and the water temperature had lowered from the mid 50s all the way to 49 degrees. I didn’t know what to expect on our trip for catfish.

Author of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’
This month we recognize the birthday of Charles Perrault, who preserved folk tales like “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Sleeping Beauty” and many more. We’d bake him a cake, but since he was born in 1628 he’s 397 now, and few folks that age can blow out the candles.

Don’t jump on the hot stove
The first time I ever heard the term, “best and brightest,” was about the cabinet that President Kennedy assembled in 1961. Lyndon Johnson, coming back from the first meeting, was in awe of their knowledge and described their brilliance to Sam Rayburn. Rayburn replied that he would be more comfortable if at least one of them had at least run for county sheriff. Subsequently, these same people buried us in Vietnam.

Letter to the Editor
President Trump, in his first day flurry of Executive Orders, begins fleshing out what he thinks will “Make America Great Again:” • Ending Law and Order by giving approval to violent rioters, including attacking cops, destroying property, and plotting insurrection; signaling these things are now “Okay!” • Will enact sweeping tariffs, which economic experts say will RAISE PRICES for Americans and fuel Inflation. • Will ignore “posse comitatus” and assign American Military to law enforcement duties on American soil (no announcement that training in law enforcement will become part of the military’s war-fighting readiness agenda).
