The first time I ever heard the term, “best and brightest,” was about the cabinet that President Kennedy assembled in 1961. Lyndon Johnson, coming back from the first meeting, was in awe of their knowledge and described their brilliance to Sam Rayburn. Rayburn replied that he would be more comfortable if at least one of them had at least run for county sheriff. Subsequently, these same people buried us in Vietnam. 01/22/2025 11:00 PM

Don’t squander the opportunity of salvation
Don’t squander the opportunity of salvation

Whether this be in the booming voice of a Baptist, the confident solemness of a Presbyterian, the charismatic shout of a Pentecostal, the comforting tone of a Methodist, the liturgical song of a Catholic, or the modern vernacular of a Non-Denominationist, you WILL hear a message of salvation. 01/17/2025 02:31 PM

In one of Roosevelt’s first radio broadcasts of “fireside chats” he tried to allay Americans’ fears in the depth of the worst financial depression in history, fears of the unknown years ahead until recovery. Unemployment was 30% at the time; misery was the lot of most working-class people; honest, hard-working family men couldn’t support their families; homeless veterans sold apples on street corners for 5 cents; gasoline sold for 12 cents a gallon, but very few owned a car; there was no social security and no other real safety net for individuals or families. Americans were very fearful for their future. 01/17/2025 02:31 PM
