History Club donates to nursing homes
The Fairfield History Club is a part of General Federation of Women’s Clubs and is a service organization. This year, they delivered adult bibs to the three area nursing homes. All three, Fairfield Nursing and Rehab, Fairview Healthcare Residence and Teague Nursing and Rehab, received 20 bibs. They are colorful, easy to clean and easy to put on, making it beneficial to the workers and cheerful for the residents.

Put down that grave-digger’s shovel
Do you ever have a week, a day, or even a month where it seems you are up against everything? Now, to be clear, I’m not talking about facing true tragedies like the loss of a loved one, a job or a serious illness. Those are truly experiences in which our lives will be inundated with struggle. No, I’m talking about the days in which it just seems all the little things are piling up, you just want to crawl back into bed and wait for the next day to come.

Public hearing on tax abatement postponed
The Freestone County Commissioners Court, during their Oct. 21 meeting, postponed a public hearing it had planned to hold, regarding participation in a tax abatement plan and adopting new tax abatement guidelines.

District 9-3A school superintendents met in an Executive Committee meeting Monday, Oct. 21 to discuss the alleged violation of Westwood ISD coaches and district personal video-taping/filming/ recording district opponents of an athletics contest (varsity football) without the prior consent of the schools competing in the contest.

FHS band advances to state
Fairfield High School’s Grand Band from Eagle Land earned a first-division rating with scores of a 1-1-2 at the Region 8 Marching Competition at Troy High School on Wednesday, Oct. 15, to advance to the state competition for the first time in school history.

Brooks turns into a Miss Pumpkin
Nine girls were crowned Miss Pumpkin at the first Miss Pumpkin Pageant on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 20, at the Fairfield High School Auditorium. The money raised at the pageant was donated to the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce for all of their support throughout the year.

One arrrested for March robbery
In March of this year, the Freestone County Sheriff Office responded to an armed robbery at the Road Ranger Truck Stop in Dew where four masked suspects entered the business and held up the attendant at gunpoint. Cash and merchandise were stolen by the suspects, who then sped away in a vehicle.
