Rethinking church; let Christ refine us with fire of Holy Spirit
Rethinking church; let Christ refine us with fire of Holy Spirit
This is the first of three articles in which I hope to acknowledge and challenge three main chains hindering the Christian church today. I will not talk about churches that turn from the Gospel of Christ or preach only the gospel of prosperity, for it is already widely known that these acts will stray the church from its heavenly purpose. No, the three focal points I wish to make may surprise you, they may challenge you (I know they challenged me), and they might even offend you. I ask that you hear me out, read carefully, and above all, search your soul in the presence of Christ to see if any of this rings true. Are you ready? The first is attendance. 10/04/2024 02:18 PM
Happy retirement!
Happy retirement!
The Freestone County Sheriff’s Office recently held a retirement cer-emony for Karren Townsend, who provided 18 years of service as a dispatcher and a records clerk. Townsend was a dedicated employee who started her career as a dispatcher and then became very in-strumental in the Sheriff’s Office success in records-keeping and the sharing of public information to requesting agencies, media and the general public. “Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement Mrs. Townsend. I hope you can look back with admiration on a successful career with the FCSO, and I hope you are looking forward with excitement and anticipation on what is to come,” Sheriff Jeremy Shipley posted on Facebook. 10/04/2024 02:18 PM

Sands of time
Sands of time
There is an old protest song from the 1960s by Buffalo Springfield with the phrase “there’s something happening here, but it is not exactly clear” that is appropriate to the times we find ourselves in today. What is happening today can be classified as modernization and the waves from it are reverberating around the world and in every area of the planet there is a different reaction. 10/04/2024 02:18 PM

Texans’ right to free speech is under attack…again
Americans’ right to speak their minds is considered sacred, which is why we must fight to protect the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the Texas Citizens Participation Act. Both measures were carefully written with protection of the individual – the “little guy” – in mind. They’re designed to give a David a fighting chance if he finds himself in a legal duel with a Goliath. 10/04/2024 02:18 PM
