Candy with meaning
Candy with meaning
Jonathan Hardin Chapter, NSDAR, presents Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley with a bowl of candy to share with his deputies and employees. Each piece of candy given has its own meaning, such as LifeSavers to remind them of the many times they’ve been one. The many first responders in our rural area are greatly appreciated, and they all work together for our safety. Pictured, from left, are Shipley and Jonathan Hardin Chapter members Catherine Ethridge, Beverly Jones and Diane Pullin. 10/23/2024 11:00 PM

5th Circuit Court removes judge from foster care suit
The federal judge who has repeatedly found Texas in contempt for not fixing its foster care system has been removed by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals after a three-judge panel faulting U.S. District Judge Janis Jack’s “highly antagonistic demeanor,” The Texas Tribune reported. The three also reversed the $100,000 daily fine against the state’s defendants – the Texas Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Family and Protective Services, which runs the foster care system. 10/23/2024 11:00 PM

Rethinking church: Money doesn’t save
Rethinking church: Money doesn’t save
This is the final article in a series I have been doing called “Re-Thinking Church.” Throughout these articles, we have been exploring various qualities or focuses that the church oftentimes utilizes that are truly misguiding our divine efforts as the Body of Christ. We have looked at the church’s overzealous obsession with attendance and membership while neglecting to celebrate the growth of discipleship and spiritual disciplines. We talked about how obsession with buildings and programs has turned the church into brick and mortar as opposed to flesh and blood. If this is your first time reading this final article, I would encourage you to go back and read the other two. But for those of you who have remained steadfast in your readings, let’s dive into the final section of these pastoral observations. Hope you’re ready, cause we are going to be talking about money. 10/17/2024 08:37 AM
