Freestone County cities showing revenue growth
Cities in Freestone County are seeing a significant increase in sales tax collections so far this year. Fairfield, Teague and Wortham are all showing increases over last year in sales tax revenue rebates, but Streetman has just about doubled its year-to-date collections.

House unveils its voucher version
Texas House members filed a bevy of education bills last week, including a proposed $8 billion investment in public education and a voucher bill that ties the amount of money spent for private schooling to the dollar amount provided to public schools. The Austin American-Statesman reported the bill, filed by Rep. Brad Buckley, R-Salado, would increase the base level of per-student funding by $220 – from $6,160 to $6,380. Additional funds would be provided for special education, bilingual education, transportation and to rural school districts.

As a citizen who did NOT vote for Donald J. Trump to be president, there is one aspect of his new presidency that I greatly look forward to. For years, claims by Trump and his supporters about criminal activity and lawlessness have been made against all manner of public officials and civil servants. These are allegations of CRIMES, and when found to be true, should be punished.

Teague powerlifting places 11th at the Leon meet
The Teague Lions powerlifting team took 11th place in a 14-team field on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Leon Last Chance Meet. Teague logged a total score of eight points while Milano placed first with a team score of 27.
