House Dems call for special session for education
Texas House Democrats are urging Gov. Greg Abbott to call a special session to increase public school funding, while Abbott is criticizing them for opposing legislation last year that tied increased funding to his pet project — school vouchers. The Austin American- Statesman reported the Democrats sent a letter, written by Rep. Jon Rosenthal, D-Houston, calling for a 30-day special session focused on both increasing per-student funding and investing more in school safety.

Two suspects are behind bars after an investigation revealed that two children were exposed to narcotics at their residence. The suspects were arrested on charges of injury to a child, endangering a child, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with a witness, and giving false information to a peace officer.

Fairfield HS competing in state academic contest
Six students have advanced to the UIL State Academic meet in Austin on May 13-15. UIL students competed in 13 events on April 27, earning third place as a school out of 64 schools in the Region.
