Persevere and grow closer to Christ during the hard times…
Seven years ago on Feb. 2, 2018, Katy and I went out on a triple date at Rancho in Teague with Michael & Melissa Grissett and Jeremy & Adrian Little. We enjoyed dinner together and then Katy and I stayed in the parking lot for a while talking. The rest is history. There have been mountains and valleys over the past seven years, but I am so thankful that God gave me Katy as my wife. We have been through a lot, especially with COVID, but we keep pushing on as we try to draw closer to Christ. 01/31/2025 08:23 PM

Agencies, universities seek $24.6 billion in new funding
The Texas Senate’s chief budget writer said state agencies and higher education institutions have requested nearly $25 billion in funding as the legislative session gets underway. State Sen. Joan Huffman, R-Houston, told The Dallas Morning News that the requests for new money reflect the growing functions and purposes of state agencies that serve the public. 01/17/2025 02:31 PM

Well new year, new me. A good saying to remember this coming year by Theodore Roosevelt “do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are”. That is a direct contradiction to what I mostly hear, “the world is a miserable place and there’s nothing I can do about It”. How about some New Year’s resolutions that you can actually keep to some extent. Social Scientists say most of these resolutions are abandoned after two weeks. 01/17/2025 02:31 PM

In one of Roosevelt’s first radio broadcasts of “fireside chats” he tried to allay Americans’ fears in the depth of the worst financial depression in history, fears of the unknown years ahead until recovery. Unemployment was 30% at the time; misery was the lot of most working-class people; honest, hard-working family men couldn’t support their families; homeless veterans sold apples on street corners for 5 cents; gasoline sold for 12 cents a gallon, but very few owned a car; there was no social security and no other real safety net for individuals or families. Americans were very fearful for their future. 01/17/2025 02:31 PM
Post-holiday blues affect all ages
Post-holiday blues affect all ages
Post-holiday blues can be as challenging as the holiday blues in children, adolescents, and adults. A National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) study shows that one in six children between the ages of six and 17 have experienced a mental health disorder each year, while one in five adults experience mental illness each year. 01/17/2025 02:31 PM

I hope everyone stayed warm and safe during the cold temperatures we had last week. It was cold, especially with the wind. 01/17/2025 02:31 PM

Well, we’ve closed out the books on another year with the Baby Boomer herd continuing to thin. We have a new president soon taking over and promising to solve all our problems on Day 1, and I’ve got one he could help me with: how to fold up properly a form fitting bedsheet. 01/09/2025 03:22 PM

Say, do you have rats at home? I’m talking about critters with fuzzy ears and whiskers who slither around the house after dark, pick up crumbs, and eat from the dog’s bowl. If they live with you, this information can provide them a higher quality life. 01/09/2025 03:22 PM

Katy and I really enjoyed our Christmas break. We enjoyed a few days at Disney World and then resting some at home. 01/09/2025 03:22 PM

Making the most of the new year
Katy and I really enjoyed our Christmas break. It was a much needed break. School starts back up next week for the kiddos after Christmas break. Everyone is ready to get back into a routine. However, before we know it, it is going to be spring break and then summer time. 01/02/2025 09:19 AM

I just talked to an old friend who told me it is very cold in his town. He wonders what he can do for fun in icy conditions. 01/02/2025 09:19 AM

Drivers will no longer be required to get annual safety inspections beginning Jan. 1, the Texas Standard reported. However, drivers in the state’s 17 most populous counties will still be required to get an emissions test in order to register their vehicles. 01/02/2025 09:19 AM
New Year celebrations
New Year celebrations
When did people begin to host New Year parties? Ancient Egyptians celebrated New Year when the Nile River overflowed, usually in June. Then someone suggested, “If we change New Year to January, we won’t drown coming home from the party.” Early Romans named their celebration for Janus, a deity with two faces. 12/26/2024 11:29 AM
