Voters rule and have spoken
Voters rule and have spoken
As Dick Cheney used to say elections have consequences, so it is now important for individual citizens to peer into the future and determine how those consequences will impact our lives. As the first sentence starts out in “A Tale of Two Cities”, it will be the best of times for some and the worst of times for others. 11/28/2024 06:50 PM

How to keep kids’ minds active during the holiday breaks
How to keep kids’ minds active during the holiday breaks
Even a short vacation from school can cause learning loss and leave kids feeling behind when they return to the classroom. Fortunately, there are many ways to keep minds active during the holiday break, some of which will reinforce the concepts they are learning in school. Here are a few of them: Vacation Reading: Whether you’re traveling for the holidays or sticking close to home, curling up with a book is a great way to spend some of the inevitable down time. At the start of the break, hit up the library so everyone in the family will have plenty to read on subjects of interest to them. You might also consider giving at least one title to each gift recipient on your list this year to emphasize the idea that books can be treasured objects. 11/28/2024 06:50 PM

I love reading books about the old West -- Louis L’Amour, Zane Grey, and those guys -- and lately I’ve been thinking about the illegal immigrant problem. Cowboys, in the mid-1800’s, had all the skills to go into tough areas, into the thick brush and hazardous arroyos and the rough mountainous regions and bring out all the longhorns and other cattle unbranded and unclaimed by any ranch, running wild. They called such a roundup of rogue cattle “running a jerk line.” Once a herd was built, it was moved in a “cattle drive” to the desired destination. 11/28/2024 06:50 PM

Why do we need the church these days?
Why do we need the church these days?
DEVOTIONS What do you think of when you hear the word, “Church”? A “club house for sinners”? “A place where hypocrites meet”? (I always tell people when they refer to the Church as such a place, “Well, why don’t you come along, too? There is always room for one more!”), “a hospital for the saints”? Or the place where Christians meet a couple of times a week? To be honest, it’s all of these rolled up into one. It’s a “clubhouse for sinners” because every Christian is simply a sinner saved by grace. 11/28/2024 06:50 PM

Enjoying good fishing days
Enjoying good fishing days
We had some really nice days to fish this past week as it felt so good to take a brisk boat ride and then enjoy a mild Fall morning on the Lake! The Catfish and White Bass also thought it was a good idea to aggressively bite as we filled the ice chest with fish! We did a little scouting on my Saturday trip after catching some nice Cats and headed to the Main Lake in search of White Bass. We found some small Schools of BIG Whites on Main lake Points in 20’-25’ feet of water and caught them two at a time on Silver Slabs with a Jig Teaser. 11/28/2024 06:50 PM
