James Riley Morgan – Early Freestone County pro athlete
James Riley Morgan was born Sept. 5, 1940, in the Freestone County community of Rocky Branch (Creek), which is located between Kirvin and Wortham. He was the youngest son of nine children – three sons and six daughters – born to farmers James and Tennie Morgan. He attended a small country school in that community then went on to attend and graduate in 1959 from the segregated F. W. Wheeler High School in Wortham. Cothran Ag Services wins 12th Annual Teague FFA Varmint Hunt
A record breaking 29 teams entered the 12th Annual Teague FFA Varmint Hunt Jan. 31 - Feb. 1. When all was said and done, Cothran Ag Services won the event with 1,165 points. Making up the team were Chance Sullivan, Cameron Cothran, Trevor Cooper, and James Curry. They also killed the heaviest coyote coming in at 41 pounds. 02/05/2025 11:00 PM

There is a lot of sickness that is going around. I hope everyone is feeling better. There was so much sickness going around that Fairfield and Teague shut down on Friday, Jan. 31. There was other schools that shutdown due to sickness as well. 02/05/2025 11:00 PM
